Have you ever sewn something that looks much better in your head than it does in real life?
Don’t get me wrong; the fabric is adorable, and I love both pieces individually. They even look great together on a hanger,
but when Aurelia finally tried them on, I just couldn’t get them to look “right”. Is that weird? (Well, weirder than I usually am?)
I think it might be the length/slouchy-ness of the Celestial shirt from Figgy’s that’s throwing the look off. I tried tucking it in, folding it under, even knotting it to the side, but I still couldn’t style it properly. The top is just a bit too blouse-y to go with the fullness of the skirt. (or at least that’s what I’m telling myself) Aurelia loves how soft and comfy it is though, and it sure looks great with these little jean shorts!
On the other end…This sweet little Paris skirt from Nothing Too Fancy has been on my Girl’s Style pin-board for ages (seriously, it’s allll the way at the bottom!), and I knew I had to incorporate it into this collect somehow. I mean, there’s only so long you can fawn over a project a simple as this before you run out of excuses to not make it. (shh, don’t tell the rest of my pins that! They’ll start to expect things.)
Even Corbin seemed to enjoy it!
Well, you know I love both the top and skirt (because I love everything you do, all the time and always), but I think you are right that the top might be a bit too loose for the skirt. According to the almighty Stacy and Clinton, a voluminous bottom half (like the skirt) needs a snugger top, and vice versa, so a more fitted top would balance it out better, I guess. But they are both darling, and I think all style rules are off when it comes to kids–they can where whatever the heck they want and still look adorable.
PS, tell Corbin to stop looking like a teenager for like 5 minutes, ok?
Now I'm honestly scared. Please promise you'll never ever call Stacey & Clinton on me. They'd have an absolute fit if they ever followed me around with that little camera of theirs!
PS – In this case, a drunken teenage who thinks it's funny to wear clothing on his head. Sure I'll tell him, but he has a tendency not to listen to anything I say. He is 2 after all.
I love both pieces, but I agree maybe a more fitted top. And I love the stitching on the back!
Thanks Alexis! Don't you love when those "oops" moments turn out to be your favorite part of a project?
