Good-bye to November

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

It has been more than a week since my last post, and Thanksgiving has come and gone without any mention. (What's up with that?) I had plans for posts about the turkey, and stuffing, my dad and brother visiting, and everything else that comes with the holiday, but the truth is that by the time I got the dinner on the table last Thursday, I was so sick that I had to pass out after the meal. (and not from eating too much either!)

Reli's idea of "helping in the kitchen!
Now that I am better, I'm gonna try out one of those high/low posts to catch everyone up to speed, cuz Oh Boy do I have a pretty bad low. I might as well start with the lows too so I'm not all grumpy by the time I finish typing this. :(

- Remember how 3 weeks ago today I was so excited about having a new car? That is now over.
Monday morning the old white car (the one Ant has been driving) kicked it. Something has gone wrong with the engine so that it can't go faster than 35 mph.
- The dealer wants upwards of $2500 to fix it, but I originally purchased the car for $3000. The chance that the poor girl is gonna get fixed is looking slimmer everyday, but Ant wants to "shop mechanics" to make sure.
- The white car also just got new tires last month. (Kick me while I'm down right?)
- Turns out that "cold" that I was pushing through in the days leading up to Thanksgiving was actually more like the sinus infection that Reli is taking medicine for. That meant 3 days of sleep and not much else for me.
- It's raining again this week.
- I'm WAY behind on blogging, making projects, and now also getting ready for Christmas.
(Stupid car, could have at least given me another week or 2!)

Meet Agnes, our 26lb turkey!
I know, huge right? But we carve off one breast whole and freeze it for later.
The dark "boob" patches are actually the green herbs I stuff under the skin.

- Thanksgiving turned out great even though I was sick. The turkey and rest of the food were delicious, and everything was ready right on time.
- Even though my little brother had to leave right after dinner, (He had to work fri.) my dad was able to stay with us through Friday evening and had a 3 day visit with Reli. We only live about 2 hrs. away, but don't get to see each other near as much as we'd like.
- Dad wanted a GPS so I braved the black friday sales with him and there were no crowds! I never go out on black friday, but Dad doesn't even have e-mail, so wanting any "modern gadget" is a big deal for us. We left at 5am, visited 5 stores, and were home by 7am with everything that we had gone out looking for (except maternity jeans, but I got those half price the next day. Score!)
- Reli got a plastic slide as an early Christmas present from Dad, and it keeps her busy for hours!
- She has also been sleeping past 8 in the morning so I can get a little something done before she wakes up. (so much better than the normal 6:30-7:00ish)
- The baby exhaustion seems to have passed, and I no longer need naps everyday!
- And for some inexplicable reason, after weeks for being scared to death, Reli has used the potty for the past 3 days! Not one accident when she is running around "naked", and she will even stop playing and go to the potty without being asked if she needs to. I know I'm jinxing myself here, and I'm knocking on any wood I can find, but having her out of diapers before the baby comes would be nothing short of a blessing!

Things could be much worse, and I still have my fingers crossed that the car will be able to be fixed for a reasonable amount so that I don't have to start the car search all over again, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high. At least everyone is finally healthy. (for the moment!)

In the mean time, I spent most of yesterday making list, charts, and calendars to organize all my shopping, projects, books, and post ideas, so the blog should be getting a bit more regular. If everything goes as planned, December will be packed with Christmas gift ideas, and have a whole week devoted to nothing but cookies! Definitely much better that what has been going on around here, but a HUGE Thanks to all of you who have stuck with me through the "dry spell". I really appreciate it!

Here's looking forward to a happy, healthy, and productive December!

Paint and more paint

Monday, November 21, 2011

At our house the whole weekend was pretty much dedicated to painting, painting, and more painting.
(You have to wear a VERY serious face when you paint you know.)

And even though the Dr. says Reli has a sinus/ear infection, she isn't letting that slow her down one bit!

We even wrangled Ant into being part of our little painting party.
(He didn't really have a choice since the spray paint fumes make this pregnant nose of mine really sick!)

Now four pieces of furniture later...
We have a major jump on decorating Reli's bedroom.

Anyone have an idea what the theme might be?

Congratulations! It's a . . .

I know, one post a week is really very slacker of me, but I figured I'd make it
up to you all with these pictures. (Who doesn't LOVE ultrasound pics?)

We ended up being at the doctors for almost 2 hours yesterday because this little
bit wouldn't sit still long enough for the important pictures to be taken.
But in the end, we know what IT is... Any Ideas?

I was watching the screen, and before the tech said anything I thought to myself
"Good Golly, A blind man could figure that one out!"

Yeah, not a doubt in anyone's mind that the little sea monkey is a BOY!
(you know, for those of you who are hopeless with fuzzy pictures. lol)

To be completely honest, I'm not sure what I think about having a boy. (bad mommy!)
I know I'll love him to pieces when I see him and all that, but Gosh Darn It! I just don't think baby boy stuff is very "cute". I'm sure that sounds really dumb, and I'll blame it on hormones if you ask, but it must be from growing up with so many girl cousins. My brother is the only grandson and all he brings to my mind is a ball of annoying, trucks, fish, and dirt. (Ah, Sisterly Love...)

We already watch the movie Cars a dozen times a week, so maybe it will be easier than I think to adapt to the monsters, super heros, trucks, sharks, and dinosaurs. I guess I could always just make something adorable.
Face palm...That is kinda what I do, (It's been so long I almost forgot! Duh)

fingers in the mouth

Anyway, have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you back next week for a little celebrating!

I'm so excited...

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

(and I just can't hide it....) I know you just sang that in your head. I also know I'm a big dork.

Hello! Beautiful, wonderful, and all around awesome people who are reading this.
Needless to say, I am in a GREAT mood!

"Why?" You ask. Well I shall tell you...
This week has been AWESOME and it is only half way through.
(knocking on wood before I jinx myself)

First off, the little sea monkey has started kicking!

I don't know about you, but feeling those little pokes in the gut takes a HUGE weight off my shoulders.
Up until this point I have been in complete paranoia mode that something is going wrong in there.
Do I have any reason to think that something might go wrong? No.
Did anything go wrong last time? No.
Are the Doctors worried? No
Do I still stress myself out about it anyway just for fun? Absolutely!
But now that I can feel him in there wriggling around each night, I'll just feel better.

Well no. I still don't know what the lil monkey is, but everyone seems to be calling it a boy.
I'm not sure if they think it should be a boy because we already have a girl, but sometime in the next 2 weeks I'm gonna find out for sure. (shhhh... Don't tell anyone, but I think I want it to be another girl ; )

Next cool thing on the list...

(I might be a little excited about this one.)

After more than 6 months of being stuck at home everyday, I can finally get out during the week and finish all the errands. That way, we can start dedicating the weekends to things that are actually fun like the zoo.
I can't even describe to you how happy this new freedom makes me!

The first thing we did yesterday on the way home from the car dealer was stop at the thrift store!
(Score: 3 pairs of pants for Reli, a storybook, and a 5lb. block of melt and pour soap...$8)

And as if that wasn't enough to make anyone pee their pants happy...

We can now go to story time whenever we want,

The dentist is finally done fixing the teeth I broke back in September,
We got the curtains hung so the sun doesn't wake us up at the crack of dawn,
I found this House of Bounce place just down the street where I can wear Reli out during the winter,

Joann's had an amazing sale this weekend where I saved $100 on things I actually NEEDED,

80% of my Christmas shopping is finished,
I have been making great progress decorating Reli's bedroom!

Now the only things I need are this exhaustion to go away, Reli to decide she needs
5 hr afternoon naps, chocolate to fall from the sky, and maybe to win the lottery.
But, even if none of those things happen, I'm still happy!

Hopefully some of my good fortune rubs off on you all just for reading this,
and you have a super fun and relaxing weekend!

Tasty Tuesday - A Whole Lotta Everything!

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Lately I have been cooking and baking a heck of a lot more than I've been sitting down at my sewing machine. (I have done a little sewing though. YaY!) The problem is I always forget to take a picture of what I made. And if you wanna be honest, my food pictures suck! It probably doesn't help either that I'm usually exhausted by the time I'm done in the kitchen. "Honey, do you mind finishing those dishes?"

To prove that I really haven't just been lounging around like Lil Miss, I made a list of links to some of the recipes that I have been working my way through lately. I know nesting isn't supposed to kick in until the end of the 9 months, but I've been freezing food like there is no tomorrow! Anything with a little asterisk is something with leftovers stashed away for later. So if you are like me, and constantly on the lookout for new dinner ideas; All the recipes below have earned at least 4 stars (out of 5) on Anthony's supper rating scale. ; )

French Onion Soup*
Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup
Mushroom Sauce
Cinnamon Swirl Raisin Bread*
Chinese Chicken Fried Rice
Orange Chicken Stir Fry
World's Best Lasagna*
Twice Baked Potatoes*
Marinated Steak
Swedish Meatballs*
Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks
Chicken Milano
Potato "Crisps"
Catherine's Spicy Chicken Soup*
Boilermaker Tailgate Chili*
Penne with Spinach and Bacon

Happy Cooking!

Happy Halloween!

Tuesday, November 1, 2011

I hope everyone had a great night of tricks and treats in their neighborhood last night. Since this is our first year in a new town, we were kinda just wandering around in hopes of a nice haul. (For Reli I swear! ; )

I'm still trying to get used to the (crappy) Virginia system that everyone goes trick or treating after dark on the 31st. I'm sure that is how it is in most towns, but I grew up in an area where each township held trick or treat on a different night or day of the week. That way I got to dress up 4 or 5 times and really maximize the candy collection. Any candy loving kid (or parent) that I know will be able to tell you that this is obviously the optimal Halloween situation! But now as a mom, I'm starting to see the awesomeness of a daytime trick or treat for the littlest ones. You can't possibly get the full cuteness impact after it gets dark! (And who really wants to extend bedtime just to deal with a crankster the next day?

Speaking of cranky...

  Grouchy Ladybug anyone?
I just wasn't up to making something cute this year,
but this little hoodie can be re worn whenever so I felt less bad buying it.

She didn't stay grouchy for long though. Turns out she just wanted to get started! lol

Gotta keep an eye out for the people with masks!

There seemed to be a ridiculous amount to bloody skeleton costumes this year, and Reli was scared witless by anyone wearing a mask. One of her friends was batman and she wouldn't even go near him.

But when she got in the car...

Reli - "Mommy, I not scared of babies. Daddy needed a hug."
Me - "Oh, you mean you had to hug Daddy tight because he was scared?"
Reli - "Yes, Daddy was scared. I hugged him. All better!"

So, after a community center trunk or treat, the mall (which ran out of candy within a half hour!) and then a random stroll around two condo complexes across from our apartment; Reli had filled her little spider bucket and we were only 15 min. late for bed. Plus we didn't even get any "grandma candy". I'd call that a score!

Now be honest. What kind of candy do you sneak out of you're kids buckets after they go to bed?
I admit to a terrible weakness for Smarties, but I'm blaming all the missing Reeses on Ant!
